The Tip of Her Tongue program series was inspired by Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (Your body is a battleground), 1989, a stark emblem for feminist art practice. If the body is our battleground, it is through language that we fight.
The series featured feminist artists in performance who work with language and embodiment, including Karen Finley performing The Jackie Look; Martine Syms performing Misdirected Kiss; Xandra Ibarra performing Nude Laughing and Cassils performing The Powers that Be; Shirin Neshat video Possessed; Dynasty Handbag performing Soggy Glasses and Homo’s Odyssey; Tanya Tagaq performing a live accompaniment to Robert Flaherty’s Nanook of the North; vocalist and composer, vocalist, and sound artist Juliana Snapper and improvisational performer and experimental recording artist Bora Yoon site specific performance; and multimedia theatrical piece Future St. by Alexandro Segade.
