Light and Space

Clarissa Tossin | The Broad (2020)

Commissioned by The Broad and filmed during the pandemic, Light and Space reveals the museum’s defining architectonic features—the veil and vault—using strategies learned from the SoCal art movement of same name which was characterized by a focus on perceptual phenomena, such as light, volume and scale, and the use of materials such as glass, and other reflective surfaces conditioned by its surroundings. Shot entirely in slow motion, the film offers a sensory experience of the space by the way in which the natural light is filtered through the building’s singular interior and exterior geometries.
